When educators come together, we are powerful. However, not everyone wants us to succeed. Certain politicians in our state see our union as a threat to their corporate donors and political future.

These politicians are and their allies are using every tool to weaken our voices, including injecting politics into public workers' paychecks and attacking our rights by restricting the ways some public workers' unions can collect dues. The most recent attack is HB 293.

HB 293 is a bill that uses complicated bureaucracy to effectively eliminate the ability of almost all public workersschool, state, parish, and city employees except for law enforcement and firefighters—to have the option of paying union dues through payroll deduction.

This is a direct attack on our ability to advocate for our students, our communities, and each other.

Many public sector workers have relied on automatic payroll deductions for years to stay in the union, and anti-worker/anti-public education politicians are counting on us to be caught off-guard. That's why we need you to write to your legislators now!
