LAE Commends Legislature for Funding Educator Pay Raises

BATON ROUGE, LA — June 3, 2019 — Louisiana lawmakers put their final stamp of approval on a proposal to increase public school funding. The proposal, Senate Concurrent Resolution 3, paves the way for salary increases for teachers and school support professionals and also increases basic funding for school district aid. LAE President Debbie Meaux called the move a step in the right direction.

"By securing funding to provide our school professionals with permanent increases in pay, we take the first step toward getting the salaries of these dedicated women and men up to the levels of their colleagues in surrounding states," Meaux said. "Recruiting and retaining these types of professionals to work with our children is one of the most important investments we can make for our students. Additionally, including dollars ($39 million) for school district aid will help to enhance our educators' working conditions and our students' learning conditions. This is a move in the right direction for public education in the state of Louisiana. We look forward to the brighter days ahead."
